WHAT HAVE BEEN ACCOMPLISHED:
JMEC has been structural engineer for the seismic analysis and preliminary retrofit design of a 4-story un-reinforced masonry office building. This building has sustained some damages in the Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989.
To preserve the historic nature of the building and to maintain exterior architecture, the proposed retrofit measures included adding two steel frames inside the front part of the building, installing plywood floor diaphragms, pointing, foundation retrofit and adding shear walls in the back of the building.
Due to budget constraint at the time, the owner only retrofitted the roof to comply with "Parapet Safety", added plywood shear walls, and repaired plaster cracks.
